Temporary exhibition
Open from 15 May to 31 July 2018 at the National Museum of Slovenia

Ceramics have always played a prominent role in people’s lives and are as important today as they were in prehistoric times. This exhibition explores the importance of the material in industrial and handcraft production and the potential of contemporary digital methods such as 3D printing. The exhibition looks at the future of ceramic material and the craft related to it.
SHAPING THE FUTURE is a touring exhibition and the result of a one-year workshop with selected European students from schools and universities that have been dealing with questions and possible innovations in the requirements of tomorrow’s design.

SHAPING THE FUTURE is part of the European project Ceramics and Its Dimensions. The project has partner institutions in eleven different countries in Europe, and it is co-funded through the Creative Europe program of EU. This ambitious project connects museums, architects, designers, industry, and stakeholders from different European countries to explore the material according to its cultural, historical, technical, and artistic aspects.
The National Museum of Slovenia is one of the twenty-five partner institutions and is a co-organiser of Module 6: Ceramics and its Dimensions: SHAPING THE FUTURE led by Aalto University, School of Art, Design and Architecture, Department of Design (Helsinki, Finland).

DR JANEZ DRNOVŠEK

Exhibition on the 10th anniversary of the death of Dr Janez Drnovšek
Open from 23 February 2018 to 5 May 2018 at the National Museum of Slovenia – Metelkova

Dr Janez Drnovšek, a statesman and a cosmopolitan, impressed Slovenia and the world with his quiet charisma, his persistence, simplicity, and courage. He was different from most of the politicians; his strong belief in what was right or wrong informed his life. His bipartisanship and support given to the fight for a better world left an indelible mark on society.
