The Preserved Gems of the Past

One of the most important tasks of the museum is to collect and preserve the movable cultural heritage of all periods from the entire Slovenian territory. The many rich collections are the result of the systematic work performed by the museum’s many devoted members of staff spanning over an almost two-hundred-year history.

Undoubtedly interesting for the general public are the items that stand out by their appearance or exceptional significance for a particular period. The selection of the greatest treasures from the collections of the National Museum of Slovenia is presented in the Collection Highlights section.

However, regardless of its state of preservation, size or artistic expression, each object in the collection is an extremely important historical source.

The first among the many museum collections presented is the Collection of Paintings at the National Museum of Slovenia.
