Description
This vessel on a cross-shaped pedestal is a typical product of the
first half and middle of the 3rd millennium BC in the wider area of
the Vučedol culture, from the central Danube Basin to the caves
in Trieste Karst (Fig. 206). The cross of the pedestal on this vessel
from Dežman pile-dwelling sites is repeated in its interior: the hemispherical hollow at the bottom, called omphalos, symbolises the
sun orb radiating four lozenges in a cross-shaped pattern.
