The two flat copper axes

The two flat copper axes
Item name:The two flat copper axes
Dating:4th millennium BC
Material:Copper
Findspot:River Ljubljanica
On display:The Earliest Stories from the Crossroads

Description

The two flat copper axes were found in the River Ljubljanica in proximity to the pile-dwellings settlements at Hočevarica and Blatna Brezovica (cf. Fig. 155). Like the stone axes in Fig. 160, they are presumably associated with one of these sites from the 4th millennium BC and thus rank among the earliest copper objects in Slovenia. Conservators removed the patina on one side to reveal the axes’ original shine (bottom).
