Description

The early objects of Frankish origin in Slovenia include a bronze spur (1), a matching strap end (3) and a buckle (8) from Gojače in the Vipava Valley. They are dated to the last third of the 8th century. In 774/776, the Franks conquered the Langobard Kingdom in Italy and the presence of these items in the border area of the Frankish state is therefore understandable.

Other Early Carolingian objects are two strap ends from Sv. Lambert near Pristava nad Stično and from Gradišče near Dunaj (4, 6), as well as a strap clip from Sv. Lambert (5). An Early Carolingian belt buckle has been found at Gorenja Sava in Kranj alongside a typical sheet-metal finger ring (2, 7), which is of a type widespread across central Europe in the Early Middle Ages.
