The National Museum of Slovenia, in partnership with the Réseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN), invites you to the RANN Summer School in Ljubljana 2025, taking place from June 30 to July 4, 2025.

The RANN Summer School in Ljubljana 2025 will offer an in-depth exploration of Art Nouveau – a period of Gesamtkunstwerk and a crucial transitional link between historicism and modernism. With its heterogeneous formal language, Art Nouveau left a significant mark on architecture, fine arts, and applied arts. The latter, often overlooked due to its everyday function, tells some of the most important stories in both art history and social history.

The RANN Summer School in Ljubljana will focus specifically on these often-neglected objects, while also providing a comprehensive overview of the period in Slovenian cultural space. Participants will deepen their knowledge through expert-led tours of Art Nouveau architecture and the National Gallery of Slovenia. At the National Museum of Slovenia, they will gain close insight into museum collections, including those stored in non-public depots, and receive first-hand exposure to conservation workshops and heritage preservation practices.

The Summer School on Art Nouveau serves as a masterclass on the period and is intended for students who wish to enhance their understanding of this pivotal era and connect it interdisciplinarily with the theory and practice of conservation, curatorship, and cultural heritage work.

In the spirit of the period’s transnational and interdisciplinary nature, three summer schools will be held under the RANN initiative in 2025, each in a key Art Nouveau city: Ljubljana (Slovenia), Brussels (Belgium), and Lviv (Ukraine).
