6th International Ceramics Triennial

Occasional exhibition, on display from 15 May to 15 October 2026, Muzejska, Metelkova
In co-production with Center Rog

A Fresh Take on Ceramic Art

International Ceramics Triennial UNICUM is the central international exhibition of contemporary ceramic art in Slovenia. It provides a platform for artists, designers, and makers from around the world to present their latest practices and respond to current environmental and social challenges. UNICUM has become a rference point comparable to similar events worldwide.

Following the demise of the ceramic industry in Slovenia he country has seen a flourishing of small studios producing small-scale functional ceramics and ceramic art. This is also a result of the International Ceramics Triennial UNICUM and a number of other ceramics exhibitions, as well as the ceramics programs at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana.

International Jury

Artworks for the exhibition were selected by an international professional jury. The jury will also make selection of awards and recognitions, and announce them at the exhibition opening.

The jury consists of:
  • Dr Irene Biolchini (Italy), art historian, curator, art critic;
  • Alenka Gregorič (Slovenia), art historian, curator, Artistic Director of the Gallery Cukrarna and Gallery Tobačna, Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana;
  • Danijela Pivašević (Serbija, Germany), professor of Ceramics at the Universität der Künste Berlin.

Beyond Use

An exhibition of functional ceramics

Beyond Use exhibition, on display from 15 May to 5 September 2026, Center Rog

In addition to its established open call and exhibition programme in the field of artistic ceramics, this year’s edition introduces, for the first time, an exhibition of functional ceramics entitled Beyond Use, organised by Center Rog. The exhibition aims to highlight the intersections between design and everyday use, presenting ceramics as a dynamic and contemporary medium that transcends traditional notions of function and positions itself within a broader design context. It will present innovative and functional ceramic works that rethink both utility and formal expression — from tableware and household objects to unique pieces that engage contemporary living environments and architectural contexts.

The exhibition Beyond Use offers an overview of contemporary ceramic design that questions the central role of utility in shaping objects and determining their value. The selection of works was made through an international open call.
