Service for Movable Heritage and Museums
The Service for Movable Heritage and Museums was
established with the aim of achieving long-term and high-quality strategies for
the development of Slovenian museums in order to provide their visitors with
the best public quality and European dimensions of their activities. The
Service is a professional link between the financier and the public service
providers in Slovenian museums. The Service has its seat at the National Museum
of Slovenia and is financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of
Slovenia.
Areas of activity and responsibilities of the Service
- Coordination
between the Ministry of Culture and Slovenian museums.
- Professionalism
and standardisation of museum work.
- Analysis
of the situation in Slovenian museums.
- Long-term
strategy for the development of museum policy, the protection of movable and
living cultural heritage.
- Coordination
of co-financing of museums with the aim of achieving high-profile collective
museum projects and their presentation to the public.
- Promotion
of all levels of education of both professional profiles and service users.
- Raising
awareness of the field of museum work in the general public.
- The
Service will seek to coordinate international collaboration and cooperation
with international organisations at the highest professional level.

Tasks of the Service for Movable Heritage and Museums (according to the Cultural Heritage Protection Act – ZVKD-1)
- Providing
expert opinions to the Ministry of Culture (hereinafter: Ministry) in the procedure
of including museums in the museum register as referred to in Article 87 and in
the procedure for granting authorisation as referred to in Article 95 of ZVKD-1.
- Providing
expert opinions to the Ministry in procedures for issuing an agreement for
research on the allocation of archives on archaeological sites and found
movable property with a presumption of heritage to museums.
- Coordinating
the preparations of expert surveys on the removal and export of movable
heritage.
- Providing
expert opinions to the Minister of Culture (hereinafter: Minister) in making
decisions on competence disputes between museums performing public service.
- Preparing
expert groundwork for issuing administrative decisions issued by the Ministry.
- Carrying
out analyses of museum activities and preparing annual reports on the results
of analyses for the Minister.
- Participating
in the preparation of the protection strategy and proposing measures for its
implementation.
- Cooperating
with state authorities and providing expert assistance in procedures relating
to movable property with a presumption of inheritance.
- Proposing
criteria for co-financing museum programmes and projects.
- Preparing
collective museum appearances, promotion and marketing of their services.
- Preparing
inventory standards, documentation procedures, interpretation and storage of
movable heritage and proposals to the Minister for the adoption of standards
and procedures.
- Performing
other tasks on behalf of museums on the basis of prior agreement.
- Cooperating
in the protection of the living heritage.
- Coordinating
training programmes and lifelong learning in the field of movable heritage and
training needs for staff in museums.
- Coordinating
internships and advanced training programmes in the acquisition of professional
titles.
- Connecting
museums and museum professionals.
- Connecting
museums with various international institutions that support the activities of
museums and the protection of movable heritage.
- Connecting
and coordinating museums in informing the public about the activities of
museums and the protection of cultural heritage.
- Providing
information on museums and the protection of movable heritage on the World Wide
Web.
- Advising
museums on the preparation of strategic and other documents.
- Advising
museums on the introduction of standards and procedures and their development.
- Advising
museums on obtaining funds for programmes and projects within the field of
museum work and the protection of movable heritage.
